The 3 functions of the spine
We're happy to share with you our new series called "Spine Anatomy Fundamentals"! In this series we will be focusing on basic spine anatomy that everyone should know. Our first lesson explores "The 3 Functions of the Spine".
Posture
Support and balance
The spine holds the head above the pelvisin both standing and sitting positions. Its structure features
different curves, offering optimal body weight distribution and contributing to balance and posture.
Motion
Flexibility and mobility
The connecting elements between the vertebrae such as discs, posterior joints and ligaments, enable a multitude of movements:
- Flexion (Bending forwards)
- Extension (Bending backwards)
- Lateral flexion (Bending right/left)
- Rotation (Torsion/twisting)
Protection
